Lucien Linders of Dutch Automated Mobility foresees a great future for logistics robots like Lotte. From packages to pizzas, delivering parts and tools: Lotte can do it safely, thanks to Vodafone Business’s 5G.
Linders’ company is working on the market entry of logistics robots that autonomously or remotely transport goods. He sees a great future in this, especially for application in large, enclosed corporate grounds and holiday parks. “Delivering packages, dropping off pizzas, assisting cleaning staff by delivering sheets from door to door: there’s so much potential,” Linders knows by now.
Lotte at work
In the video, Linders puts the logistics robot Lotte to work in the 5G Hub in Eindhoven. The green four-wheeler previously successfully delivered linens at Landal Estate ‘t Loo of Landal Green Parks. The logistics robot deployed there was named ‘Lotte’. The robot can find its way around such a complex autonomously, but can also be controlled remotely by operators – in this case, at the manufacturer in Estonia. Meanwhile, the name ‘Lotte’ has become common in and around the 5G Hub. When you talk about ‘Lotte’, you mean Linders and Dutch Automated Mobility’s logistics robot application.

5G: reserving a lane
Regardless of the option, it can only be done safely with a stable and robust 5G connection. Jan Spruijt, manager of the 5G Hub, explains in the video that Vodafone Business uses the technique of Network Slicing – also known as RAN Slicing, where RAN stands for Radio Access Network. Spruijt in the video: “It’s like reserving a lane specially for communication with the robot on the mobile data highway.”
